THE BAD NEWS

I’ve been sharing mash-ups online for a few years, and while it’s a hard decision, I just don’t have the time to continue this on a weekly basis.  It’s part of a shift in my DJ priorities, going away from Weddings and into Clubs.  There are only so many hours in a day, and instead of marketing and promoting, I just have to adjust my schedule to practicing.

I want to sincerely thank each and every person who ever read this blog, (along with every DJ who made the mash-ups).   This has been one of the highlights of my professional life for a while now, and it’s hard to give it up.

THE GOOD NEWS

However, I’m obviously not going to stop listening to new mash-ups.  And I’m not going to stop sharing them either.

This is only the end of my BLOG POSTS, please follow me on facebook:

www.facebook.com/TheRealDJSteve

and I’ll share lots of new mash-ups there.  It won’t be on a schedule, but it should be the same number of songs.  Instead of 3 a week, it might be 1 a day or every other day.  Whenever I see something cool, I’ll share it there instantly instead of queuing them up once a week.

AND NOW, HERE IT COMES

THE HOLY SHIT MOMENT

While I said this will be my last regular weekly mash-up post, this has been too big a part of me life not to give it a proper send-off.  My original thought was to have an all time top 10 post, but I can’t pick just 10.

Turns out, I can’t pick even just 20, 0r 40, or even 100, so my final, mega-wrap up MashUp blog will share my all time favorite 115 mash-up tracks.

YEP, the best 115, all in one blog, with links to (almost) all of them.

Some of these songs have cool videos, some are audio only on sound-cloud.  115 embeds will make this post too slow to load. Follow each link for a place on the internet that you can listen to in some format.

As for downloading, I have a zip file of all the tracks available, if you want to get my zip file, msg me and tell me at least 5 new Djs you followed on facebook, or soundcloud, or whatever and I’ll send you a link for download.  It’s nice that you found my blog, go and follow some of these DJs directly and spread the word.  This is a pay it forward opportunity.

2manyDJs – Intergalactic Rockit

check out the story of how Intergalactic Rockit saved the day and kept me undefeated at “stump the DJ” here:

Alexis Von Fierce – Salt Air On Mars

right when I was re-branding my wedding company this song came out.  I made montage video with Bruno Mars orginal song as the background for the first half and this funky remix as the second half background.  (wanted to show 2 sides to being a wedding dj)

A Plus D – Close To Konichiwa Bitches

By creating Bootie, A Plus D are arguable doing the most to spread DJ / Mash-Up culture the right way – live, in the clubs.  a major bucket list item is to go to a Bootie night in person.   This song, is just in right mix of sweat and edgy.

there’s really no excuse to not follow them here: http://www.bootiemashup.com
DO IT NOW!

A Plus D – Don’t Stop Believin’ In Planet Rock

Initial reaction when hearing this song, I wish I still smoked, this is the kind of song I’d put on repeat for an hour and get lost in.  (this is an old mash-up, one of the first I’d heard at the time – it’s a foundation song for me, really opened my eyes to new possibilities in music).  sounds best really, really loud.

J Kwon – Tipsy (Candyland’s OG Remix)

love this track, love Candyland.  super creative, doing their own thing.  when the drop hits, I always stop what I’m doing and jam.

Capital Cities – Breathe

an old friend turned me on to this track, hard not to think of him when I hear it.  legitimate, serious work of art.  ALWAYS gets love from the club

Celldweller – Disposable War Pigs

totally electronic, totally true to the spirit of rock, one of the toughest, coolest songs you’ll ever hear

Colatron – Wish You Were Home

just one of those songs (I mean 2)

It’s at this point in my blog that I realized that if I came up with a personal note about all 115 songs that I would never finish this post.  I mean nothing by commentary omission except that I want people to listen to these songs and I’m short on time.   I love all of these tracks, please listen and develop your own opinions….

I’ve got 115 links to add before I can post this, so please understand

De Hofnar – Same Love

THE BAD NEWS

This will be my last “weekly” Mash-Up blog post.

THE REALLY GOOD NEWS

I’m practicing more now than ever (and I’m getting better)  My style has always been a blending, long overlap, almost mash-up style of playing familiar songs with a different twist on them.

It’s always worked on the dance floor for me, and Ill continue to DJ like that live.  Expect that to continue, and getting better, I plan on taking some of my live transitions and building them into formal Mash-Up tracks of my own.

Known fact: I’ve written a mash-up blog for 3 or so years and I’ve never had a song of my own that was good enough to share on the blog.

THAT WILL CHANGE SOON.

Also, part of my practicing will be the inevitable switch to turntables.  I don’t see me switching away from a base of blending & mash-ups, but I want to add some turntable tricks and scratching.  Not sure how good I’ll get, or how much I will add into my routine, but there’s only one way to find out.
